Wasatch Mental Health/Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program
Type of Site: Internship, Community Mental Health Center, APA Accredited
The internship is in a multidisciplinary out-patient environment serving all age groups in a community mental health organization. The training program is based on a local clinical-scientist model. Interns serve in several clinical settings rotating throughout a weekly schedule in adult and youth outpatient clinics, including direct therapy and psychological evaluation/assessment. Training opportunities include a wide variety of therapeutic interventions; disability, neuropsychological and general psychological evaluations. In addition to offering educational and experiential opportunities for treatment of acute and chronic Axis I disorders, opportunities are also readily available for working with Axis II disorders and adult domestic violence. Interns are encouraged to develop treatment methods in individual, group, and family interventions. Supervision includes 2+ hours per week of individual supervision and two hours per week of group supervision. Interns are required to apply continuous outcome measures throughout the therapeutic process in order to track progress and to become oriented to a culture of clinical accountability. In an effort to provide diversity of thought and professional interaction, interns are required to maintain regular contact with other professionals within the organization for consultation and case conferencing regarding preferred patient care. Didactic training (2 hrs/wk) includes a wide variety of technical and practical subjects important to psychologists in a community mental health organization. Didactic education faculty includes a number of psychologists and psychiatrists on the WMH staff and within a variety of community settings who are known for their knowledge and experience in specific subject areas. Post-Doctoral Residency is possible.
